Ontario Excess Soils Municipal By-laws

As part of my work at the Canadian Urban Institute, the following Ontario Excess Soils Municipal By-laws and Conservation Authority Regulations interactive maps. The interactive web maps are powered by Carto.

Municipalities in Ontario may regulate the use of excess soils on receiving sites or temporary storage sites through Site Alteration or Fill By-Laws. The Canadian Urban Institute created a tool to provide examples of by-law language and guidance for Ontario municipalities to use in creating or updating key sections of these by-laws.

Interactive web maps were created to help summarize which municipalities and conservation authorities were were reviewed during the research and development phases, and allow easy access to associated by-laws and regulations.
